Copenhagen This Weekend - aka Mikael Cycle Chic

Let's get some summer vibes today, friend! Repeating Cycle Chic Mikael's two Copenhagen hot spots - good to go also in December...

Cycle Chic and CPH BLONDE in persona - 1

Mikael Cycle Chic and I met one sunny day in front of Copenhagen Town Hall, to take some photos for our hot new blog collaboration.

Our two blogs - Cycle Chic you already know; regarded as one of the Top 10 fashion blogs in the world by The Guardian - and my CPH BLONDE regarded... aaah ;) having 10.000 monthly readers, are Real Friends now since the day we had a nice glass of wine at the trendy Falernum cafe and bar on Værnedamsvej:

Falernum

Falernum is a favorite of Mikael. Go there for that great glass of wine and for the atmospheric street life, he suggests.

Copenhagen Cycle Chic at Rådhuspladsen - part 4

After our Falernum meeting Mikael brought me safely to the Metro Station in this red bullet vehicle! No pictures please - LOL.

Copenhagen Cycle Chic at Rådhuspladsen - part 1
He bicycles all over the town - even to the airport. Oh well, what more to do on a Copenhagen weekend, Mikael?

- Have dinner at Fiskebaren in The Meatpacking District, he says. Oh, and if you spot Mikael at Fiskebaren, alone, he's just spoiling himself - and if he's with a girl, it's probably a date! Tip: Make sure to sit by the bar.

Lieke - “My bike and I have almost the same age”

Lieke

I come from Holland. I brought my own bike when I came to Copenhagen.”

You come from a country where there is a strong bicycle culture. What do you think about the bicycle culture of Copenhagen? What surprised you the most when you arrived here?”
I think the bicycle culture is pretty much the same. I was surprised by the organization of the intersections. In the Netherlands, all the cars stop and then the bikes can go in all the directions. When my friends come to visit me, I always warn them.
I was also surprised to see a lot of nice brand-new bikes. And finaly, the fact that the cyclists in Copenhagen do not really lock their bikes and they tie them up to nothing. I brought my Dutch lock too.”

Lieke - Portrait

Why did you come with your bike? Does it represent something special for you?”
It's my old bike. I like spending time to fix it. We have almost the same age. It is just one year older than me.

You will go back to Holland in a couple of days, what will you bring back from Copenhagen?”
“These very warm gloves! Here, the wind go through the gloves, so you need an other layer of wool inside.”

Mysterious Girl: Never Got Her Name

The back of no-hair cool #Copenhagen attitude girl
Sayyy what! Here’s one of my major blogger moments – and I’m so happy to share it with you, lovely Cycle Chic guys & girls.
Stepping on my biky brakes when I spot this furry girl on a pastel bike. Curious… what does she look like if she turns around?
Waiting for Miss Mystery I make a little dance, turn around and grab the look of another stylish chica:
Pretty pretty #Copenhagen chica
When facing Miss Mystery my heart jumps; don’t expect she looks like this. I imagine soft brown hair – here’s no hair, a decisive nose piercing, a decisive look… And wauw, such a sweet smile that starts creeping up her chin:
SO cool #Copenhagen girl - no hair and lots of attitude!
I just love it when things aren’t black and white. Love Life – love blogging – love you!
Best,

Snowstorm Nighttime

Snowstorm in Copenhagen
It's that time of year in Copenhagen. Odds of riding a bicycle at night, in snow, are rising.

Portraits of cyclists: Agna & Jackie - “So now I never let go off my bike anymore.”

Agna & Jackie

We made the choice to have a more sustainable living. That's why we use a bike instead of other means of transport. We could take the metro today but we choose to ride our bikes.”

I did not cycle during 5 years and one day I felt like biking again. I realize that it was so convenient, so now I never let go off my bike anymore.”

The Cycle Chic Republic Calendar for 2014

Copenhagen December 2013
Just in time for winter. The first snow fell on Copenhagen today. The bicycles rolled on.

Almost by coincedence, we launched The Cycle Chic Republic Calendar for 2014 at the same time. It's the sixth annual calendar from us here at Cycle Chic and this year we have featured photography from a whole bunch of the great people with blogs in the Cycle Chic Republic.

Copenhagen December 2013 Christmas Tree
Almost by another coincedence, we spotted the first christmas tree of the season(of many) transported by bicycle here in Copenhagen.

Don't worry, friend, the summer will be back

Summer will be back - 2

Well, hello there ;) Searching for summer one freezing December day in Copenhagen... this girl does it by getting herself a nice bouquet of flowers.

Portraits of cyclists: the trio - «I did not want an individual bike»

1 bike 3 cyclists

«Do you carry your friends often?»

«Yes, he does. We do garbage hunting sometimes together. Actually, the idea behind the Christiania bike was to open a mobile candy shop. Finally, we did not do it.»
«Now, we want to put up a sound system in the bike.»
«It's fun to cycle while talking to someone sitting in the front.»
«I did not want an individual bike, I wanted it look like a Volkswagen van».

Portraits of cyclists - Astrid: “Explorer” is a nice name for a bike

Astrid - Portrait

I cycle every day, everywhere.”

Where did you find your bike ?”
I got it for free since I found it in my parents' garage. It's very old. I like it. It's written « explorer » on it and I thought it's a nice name for a bike.
I found these handles in Berlin.”

Do you feel that you belong to the cyclists community of Copenhagen ?  Do you think there is a specific cyclist culture in Copenhagen ?”
When I was younger, the bike culture in Denmark was nicer. The cyclists were more friendly on the bike lanes. Now, I think people are a little bit more aggressive. But I like biking and I'll keep on cycling. I'm definitely a part of the cyclists community of Copenhagen.
Actually, we are more and more cyclists every day. The bike lanes are too narrow now. We need more space.”

You cycle with a nice coat today, where does it come from?”
It comes from Japan.”

Portraits of cyclists - Jens: “Today, I'm just riding around the city to discover new places”

Jens

I cycle every day to the main station to catch my train to Roskilde where I study. I have a single speed bike which can be turned into a fixie. I think it's a cool bike. I come from Jutland and I think that in Copenhagen there is a bike culture that does not exist in the other cities in Denmark.”

Why do you like biking in Copenhagen?”
I bike because it's fast and cheap. It's also nice to get the opportunity to take a look at new places. Today [Sunday afternoon], I'm just riding around the city to discover new places.”

Fab accessories to The Man and His Bike

DSCN1606

Settling myself in Copenhagen Latin Quarter – can’t help shoot a photo of this cool & girly 5-some, while waiting for fashionable cyclists. Wonder what or who they are waiting for?

Oh, here he comes! My determined looking guy with nice leather gloves holding on to leather bike handles – love it.

Working my way towards the main shopping street Strøget, I pass one more classic looking guy – now with a sixpence:
