Portraits of cyclists: Anne-Katrine - “I picked each part of the bike that I wanted”

Anne-Katrine
Anne-Katrine is the happy winner of the photo contest Shop by Bike KBH organized as part of the CycleLogistics project.

I bike everywhere within Copenhagen. To me, transports are not just about getting from A to B. By biking you get the sense of the city and you get fresh air. It's just fantastic.”

Is it a new bike?”
Yes, it is. I got it at Cykel Fabrikken (The Bike Factory). They have lot of different choices and you can design your bike yourself.
I picked each part of the bike that I wanted. It's my dreamed bike. I chose these leather handles because they are elegant and not too extravagant. The saddle is a Brooks. The locks are usually ugly and boring but this one bright up the bike. I like the small details.”

SO sweet: The Friendly Copenhagen Hug – on bike

Thursday morning view from Copenhagen Lagkagehuset

Standing just by great Danish pastry house Lagkagehuset, I couldn’t help taking a photo of these two sweet friends-on-bikes.

Two more friends. Hey handsome guys, where are your bicycles?!

Copenhagen Rain Man riding in the rain

Moving on to Illum and Købmagergade, I also had to stop this guy. His bicycle umbrella takes 30 km of wind! Riding in the rain – with absolute style.

Ps. Shooting Copenhagen travel guides – on bike – these days. Together with Cycle Chic co-blogger Clotilde. Stay tuned on www.cphblonde.com for the first release.

Portraits of cyclists - The cyclist & the rose: “My bike is like a common object”

Rose & Cyclist - portrait
"I bike every day to go to work.
I bought my bike 5 years ago. It is like an common object to me. Nothing special. Just a means of transport.

I lived in America and there, people were sometimes surprised to hear me saying that I bike every day. It seems so normal to me."

Enter the Headwind

There's a storm warning for Copenhagen and parts of Denmark today. Here's a little prequel. While many parts of Denmark are hilly, the central area of Copenhagen is rather flat. What many people don't understand is that wind is a major factor. On a windy day, cycling into a headwind, it is equal to cycling up a hill with a 6% grade. And hills end. Wind doesn't.

Today, the storm strength winds will transform Copenhagen into the Pyranees. We will, however, just get on with it.

It's nothing new, of course. Wind has always been a factor in Copenhagen, as the vintage photo, above, attests.

Heels on Wheels - Copenhagen Style

Heels on Wheels from Nanna Nike Kindtler on Vimeo.

Heels on Wheels is a film showing Copenhagen bicycle culture. The film is an example of how four Danish girls use bicycles as transport - dresses, high heels and freezing weather is no barrier to arrive at the party by bike.
It was shown at Bicycle Film Festival 2010.

The film was made by: Anna Bisgaard-Nøhr, Naja Bjørn Nielsen, Line Røijen and Nanna Nike Kindtler

Hello there, CopenHipster Guy: It’s all in the details

Cycle chic guy at Hipster Bridge
OH yes,  hello there… stylish man bicycling across Copenhagen Hipster Bridge!
Just look at him. Upright. Determined. Probably on his way to work (it’s Thursday morning).
And heyy, check out his style: It’s all in the details. Starting deep low from the bicycle lane, I just love his shoes. Maybe he’s not wearing hot purple shoelaces, but the medium brown ones are classic and matching his cognac colored shoes perfectly.
His pants. Slim style. Love it!
The jacket. I mean… the lining, checkered and yep, classic.
The hair… Have a guess, you Lovely Men out there, how much hair wax is necessary to maintain a look like this? ;) One big finger dip in the cradle – or two. Or maybe 3? Pleeease comment and make my day (O:

And while you’re thinking of a so-to-say correct answer, have a look at Copenhagen Life on Hipster Bridge, for 1 minute and 21 seconds, last morning:

Portraits of cyclists: Green shoes woman - “I like to ride through Amagerfælled”

Green shoes woman

I bike every day. I go to work by bike.
My bicycle belonged to my neighbor who wanted to throw it away. I took it and my ex-husband fixed it.”

Do you have a favorite route to bike within Copenhagen?”
Yes, I like very much the road where you ride through Amagerfælled, which is not really a road.
Amagerfælled is a very nice area. I like this route because when you drive there at night, there is no street lights, it's totally dark. In a way you are in the middle of the city but it's completely dark.”

Miami: Ride a Deco Bike on Lummus Park

After California, Copenhagen Cycle Chic heads East to discover the other american sunny coast to find out how the inhabitants of Miami ride their bike.

Back in 2011, a bike share system - the Deco Bike - has been launched, so that tourists and locals could enjoy riding mainly on Lummus Park (along the mythic South Beach).

Black & Blonde girl - “My bike used to be blue but I painted it in black”

DSC_0005
"I use my bike everyday. Even if it's for 10 kilometers, I still take my bike".

"Do you remember how many bikes you've owned so far?"
"So far, around 5 bikes."

"Do you take care of your bike?"
"No. I got this one for free. It uses to be blue but I painted it in black and I put a sticker to recognize it.

Cycle Chic, Belfast Times, Amalienborg – and purple shoe laces

Amalienborg Copenhagen

Hello Danish princes and princesses, where are you?

Oh, this could SO much be me, exploring Copenhagen on bike. This is Amalienborg, the winter home of the Danish royal family. Well, no need then to try call their attention before the snow arrives (O;

What else has happened since last Friday: It all started with a photo of some trendy purple shoelaces in Copenhagen Latin Quarter, belonging to a handsome Canadian tourist – check him out in tall handsome person right here.

Some lovely people not just read my posts, they also follow my fashion advice… now my blog pals at Belfast Times have picked up the trend! They have been to their first @belfashionweek, read ALL about it – including their brand new colored shoelaces.

Well, hello there… co-Cycle Chic guest blogger Clotilde and I are celebrating our three blogs – including this very one –  being selected among the five best blogs about Copenhagen, by Spotted by Locals. What a feast, and we needed to be photo creative to have Cycle Chic Himself join us in our toast. He looks pretty cool, ugh?

Ps. Don’t hesitate to step by CAFE/BAR 7 in Studiestræde – you too, it’s such a Copenhagen lovely place to hang out.

You take care until next Friday!

Portraits of cyclists: Cyclist living in a collective - “ I live in a collective outside the city where everyone cycles”

Collective - girl
" I cycle everyday over 16 kilometers with this bike".

"Do you take care of your bike?"
"I live with a bike mechanic. So, he taught me how to maintain my bike myself and last month I spent the whole day fixing it. I live in a collective outside the city where everyone cycles. So, everybody helps each other maintaining the bikes."

"What is the relation to the bikes within this collective?"
"Everyone owns a bike and we have also extra bikes for guests and one Christiania bike in common. We can use it when we want. Last week, I use it to carry lot of apples I bought to press them and make juice. It was full of apples."

You Can't Describe Copenhagen Living Without Saying The Word 'Bicycle'. Ever.

Nothing stops us cycling in Copenhagen... from Grit Tind on Vimeo.

So here's a short film that I made with a crazy and talented group of friends studying Performance Design at RUC University, Denmark. We just wanted to depict what it's actually like cycling around the beautiful city of Copenhagen (even on a grey day!)

We thought to be on the safe side by filming this during August when the weather was warm and wonderfully sunny but of course, according to Sod's Law, on the actual day of filming it rained so so hard! We persisted anyway because at the end of the day, whether it rains or even snows, the reality is that Copenhageners will cycle through anything - "Sådan er det...!" (That's just how it is!)

Enjoy!

Over and Out!
