When Cycle Chic Rides in Other Cities
A fine artistic representation of how we feel like when we cycle in Emerging Bicycle Cultures. An illustration by the artist Peter Diamond - as spotted on our friends' site Curitiba Cycle Chic.
Designing Bicycle Culture
The city on bike from Bicycle Innovation Lab on Vimeo.
As ever, it's not all about how Cycle Chic continues to inspire Citizen Cyclists around the world to open their closets and dress for their destination. Here's an interview about Design and how it can help our cities - and our bicycle culture. Together with Danish designer Jens Martin Skibsted. An interview for Bicycle Innovation Lab and their "The City on Bike" lecture series.
You can also see my TED x talk from Zurich about Bicycle Culture by Design in this earlier post.

From Russia with Love
This week a Siberian cold front hit Denmark chilling everyone to the bone! There was even a touch of snow just as the sun decided to show its face for the first time for days.
Have to admire the girls who continue to bike in skirts. Its takes more than a little cold to keep Copenhageners in doors and off their bikes.
And some maybe even seize the day and send a little love back to Siberia to warm that that icy and lonely place.
Myself? I'll be packing long under wear for the next days commute - Brrrrr!
Happy Cycling!

Vintage Cycle Chic & Design
Found this last weekend at one of Copenhagen's better flea markets. A vintage Danish magazine - Familiejournal (Family Journal) - from September 1947. Lovely vintage Cycle Chic. There was no article inside the magazine about cycling. It was just a lovely cover shot showing daily life. In September, too. Heading into fall, but the bicycles roll on.
Found me a vintage designer chair by the Danish designer Ole Wanscher, too. Now I'm going to have to find some more of the same. Simply because it fits so well on the Bullitt heading home and The Lulu fits perfectly on it, too.

Its a Man's World
There is a small but consistent number of Copenhagen girls biking men’s bikes. Many of them older, classic models as the ones above and below. Classic dress too!
A dress or skirt is not a problem when riding (but can be a challenge when mounting).
Looking good as ever...
...while quietly enjoying the ride!
Happy Cycling!

Go Out
Great ad from 1953 for Woman's Day magazine. And why not a great slogan for this new year? Go Out. By bicycle. With your children.
History doesn't really repeat itself... it just keeps on going. Rio de Janeiro in this case.
And Amsterdam here.
Resolutions
Ths picture of my kids in Barcelona sums up 2013 for me:
- Hold hands more.
- Spend time with my kids more.
- Ride bicycles more.
- Visit warm places more.

Happy New Year!
Happy New Year from Cycle Chic! Thanks for yet another brilliant year. Here's a shot from the archives. New Year's Eve 2007.
It was 18:17. Temperature: 0 degree.
The streets and bike lanes were busy with people heading to parties and get togethers.
An expectant mood. So expectant that one doesn't give riding in a skirt and heels in that temperature a second thought.

Dressed to Kill - Sarah Lund Sweaters
With the the success of Danish crime series "The Killing" the main character Sarah Lund's Faroe island knitwear sweater suddenly morphed into an unlikely fashion statement. Above the original. Below a typical variation over the same knitware theme.
This type of knitware is found in all Nordic countries - here an Icelandic style knitware.
A lighter summer version - Norwegian style.
And yes - men wear them too. However, not as much as when I was young.
Happy cycling!
