Copenhagen Chuck Chic

One can debate whether or not Converse shoes are 'chic' but it's hard to deny their funk value... can't get around that. Even though Chucks have lost a great deal of their historic rebel yell since the company went bust a few years back, [bought by Nike and the shoes are now made in Asia] Chuckies are still quite groovy on the right person. And the right bike lane.

Guest Photo: San Francisco, USA

What a lovely shot from one of our readers, David in San Francisco.

"I live in San Francisco, a very bike-friendly city (by US standards, at least), but seeing these shots makes me yearn for Amsterdam or Copenhagen.
Here is a shot I took at the New Belgium Brewing "Tour de Fat" in Golden Gate Park last July."

Thanks so much for sending it in to us, David. It's such a cool shot - a happy marriage of totally retro style and modern attitude.

Do you [or anyone else out there] know what brand the bike is? We can't make out the logo on the frame.

What a Drag

Her kickstand was dragging and, in best Copenhagen style, she just flicked it back into place with her heeled shoes before continuing on.

Pedestrian Pause

In the heart of the city a cyclist - after having paused for pedestrians crossing to and from the metro station at Nørreport - waits for the crowd of bikes ahead of her to start moving.

This girl's marvellous bag was a welcome touch of colour on the coldest day of the year so far.

Guest Photo: Copenhagen

Estilo danés (by elsamu)
We love posting guest photos and when they are taken in our own town by a guest to the city, that's even better.

Thanks to our mate Sam from Madrid [Elsamu on Flickr], who visited Copenhagen last summer and was amazed by our chic cycling culture. This photo sums it all up for him... and for us.

Remember... if you're in possession of any chic cycling photos from other cities, be sure to let us know.

And remember, if you don't make bike commuting look effortless, you may be doing it wrong. Style over speed.

Commute

The afternoon exodus from the city centre begins. Streams of bikes moving in long, organic lines in all directions away from the city.

Copenhagen Chic New Years

It was 18:17 on New Year's Eve in Copenhagen.
Temperature: 1 degree.
The streets and bike lanes were busy with people heading to parties and get togethers.

An expectant mood. So expectant that one doesn't give riding in a skirt and heels in that temperature a second thought.

Happy New Year from Copenhagen Cycle Chic!

Summer Memories

Summer Memories, originally uploaded by [Zakkaliciousness].

We were down by the harbour playing petanque with some friends and colleagues, after which we had a curry down the road.

Here, in the middle of a Nordic winter, images like these serve a noble cause. The shortest day of the year is behind us. There are three extra minutes of light each day in Copenhagen.

Summer is slowly, surely returning.

Guest Photos: Copenhagen

DJ Nicoline, originally uploaded by metz79.

A wonderful photo from the Copenhagen nightlife, taken by fellow Copenhagen Flickrite Metz79 - a super cool photographer and all round groovy person. The photo is titled titled 'DJ Nicoline'.

The sticker on the bike says, "It's only love, give it away." We've seen them around before and love the slogan.
