Cargo Bike Newlyweds

Cycle Chic sends it's warmest public wishes to our friend Sammy - owner of the Danish cargo bike brand Triobike - who got married last Saturday here in Copenhagen.

Not surprisingly, the newlyweds let a Triobike handle their transportation needs on the day, in true Copenhagen style.

Congratulations to the happy couple!

Svajerløb 2012 -Birte
Last weekend the annual Svajerløb - Danish Cargo Bike Championship was hosted at the old Carlsberg Brewery.  Along with the usual suspects, we had a few surprise guests.  Birte, the lovely bride-to-be, and her girlfriends were heading out, via cargo bike, for her bachelorette party.  The Svajerløb, traditionally a race for bragging rights among the city's most daring bicycle messengers, seemed like an obvious stop for them.
Svajerløb 2012 - Bride to Be
While Birte and her girlfriends didn't take home any medals for their speed, they took first place for Love.  And the lovely bride-to-be did the honors of presenting the medals - Tour de France style.Svajerløb 2012 - Medal Ceremony
Congratulations Birte!

Cycle Chic Goes to México 01

Mexico Wedding Cycle Chic
It was a wild, thrilling and rewarding trip to México City. I was invited by the Danish embassy to take part in a conference at UNAM university with my Copenhagenize hat on but there was ample Cycle Chic activities on the programme as well. The Cycle Chic brand/trademark is growing in leaps and bounds and it's thrilling to see how it appeals to so many people, not least in México.

My head hurts trying to figure out how to blog the wealth of photos from the trip effectively but I suddenly felt like starting at the ending.

Last day. Just ate with some friends and we're heading back to their place before I shoot off to the airport. 25 degrees, sunshine. Tired, hungover, happy but regretting the imminent departure. Walking through a park when Arlette says, "Look!" and Peter added an urgent "Take a picture!"

What a way to go. What a sight to send me on my way. A just married couple pedalling and laughing on two mini penny farthings bicycles, complete with tin cans rattling behind.

I couldn't possibly have invented a better send off gift for myself.

Australia Wedding Cycle Chic

Australia Cycle Chic
From a snowy, sub-zero Copenhagen to a summery Australia. Thanks to Lucy from Sydney Vintage Bikes for some Australia Cycle Chic to warm us on these chilly days. Above and below you can see splendid engagement photography by Gemma Clarke.

Cycle Chic Wedding Days

Thanks to Raquel in Madrid for the link to these lovely wedding photos from California. Thanks to our intrepid correspondent Raquel from Gratis Total.

And to Ellen from Governors Island in New York for these lovely shots. Note the arrows on the pavement... they are side by side, making it clear that cycling with a friend is more than welcome. One of Ellen's own ideas for helping bicycle culture blossom on Governors Island. A little extra paint but a lot of positive symbolism.

Here's the bride heading over the Brooklyn Bridge.

You can read more about Governors Island - and plan your imminent visit - on the Island's blog right here. There are loads of bicycle friendly activities on the island.

Here Comes The Bride

I've actually heard of many, many weddings in Denmark featuring a cargo bike, I've just never taken a photo of one. So thanks to Michelle, who attended a wedding a couple of weeks back and documented this Danish bicycle tradition for me... and, well... you.

She rented a cargo bike from the good people at Baisikeli [where you should rent your bicycles when YOU come to Copenhagen] and together with her daughter, they decorated it for the bride and groom and their daughter.

They rolled away from the church to the reception on three easy wheels.

I found this photo on Christiania Bikes website [under Photos on the menu], sent in by a customer in Australia, of another wedding Down Under.

Bicycles and weddings. A match made in heaven.

What a fantastic email I recieved this morning from Tricia in Portland.

Hi Copenhagen Cycle Chic,
Your blog has inspired me to get beyond my Sidi's and experience cycling in my growing collection of fabulous shoes. I love biking in heels- its so free spirited and sexy!

I hope you enjoy the attached photos. They are from our wedding which was on October 17th in Portland, OR. A friend popped in to the celebration with her bike, so I decided to take a spin. After all, what's a wedding without a bit of biking? Two of the pictures are of me on the bike (in my wedding dress) and one is of my husband and me.

Thank you again for the inspiration.

I had to google Sidi's to find out that it is, apart from being a city in Northern Algeria, a brand of cycling shoes. :-) Thanks so much for sending us a brilliant flash of Cycle Chic from Portland, Tricia! Wonderful photos. People have been riding in heels long before cycling shoes were invented so we're pleased you love it!
Congratulations on your marriage - such a lovely couple!
