Washington - and the Invisible Man

Copenhagen Bikehaven by Mellbin - Bike Cycle Bicycle - 2011 - 3655
Had half an hour before a meeting at the White House to take some shots of the Washington cycle scene. There were quite a few people biking past the White House including a police officer. "Here's the picture to go for" I thought. Alas, when I asked him if I could take his picture he replied with a gruff "No!". So you will have to imagine the invisible biking police officer vigilantly patrolling the White House Gates.

I was pleasantly surprised by the city bike system in Washington - next time I visit Washington I'll try it and report back here.

Faith, Hope and Love

Ah, the oddities of the internet. Bill over at District Citizen Cycling, a DC bicycle blog, has dug up this clip from a Danish film directed by Bille August in 1984. It's called 'Twist and Shout' in English and 'Tro, Håb & Kærlighed'. Which translates as 'Faith, Hope and Love'. It takes place in 1963.

Perfect title for the context presented here. As Bill writes ironically on his blog, "This short scene is pretty charming, but does serve as a stark reminder of one of the real perils of bicycling: you may not be able to catch up to your girlfriend on the bus."

Faith in the bicycle as a tool for transforming our cities. Hope that rationality will prevail. Love. Period.

Muppet Cycle Chic

I'll just let the moving images do the talking because while it's lovely Cycle Chic, it's also a bit strange...

Cycle Chic Sunday

Navy & White
It's Sunday, late-morning in Copenhagen. It's cloudy and windy outside my windows. There's a thought, however, that appeals. In a few hours, the sun will rise over California. Far away across an ocean and a continent.

me & my bike
Later today, Eva - from Cycle Chic Sundays in Long Beach- will probably be walking out of her house to wherever her bicycle is parked. She'll pedal off to meet some friends. She'll hook up with them and they'll embark on something so simple and elegant.

A Cycle Chic bikeride.
Cycle Chic Sunday's
She'll round up her bike gang and enjoy the freedom of cycling calmly, stylishly and aesthetically around her town.

Looking out my windows again, with raindrops starting to fall, I just realised where I'd rather be.

Bicycle Posters

Here at Cycle Chic we just got wind of a cool series of bicycle posters over at Poster Cabaret, out of Austin, Texas. A wonderful selection of bicycle themes to grace the walls of where you live.

Tucson Bike Beautiful

Some people just get what our Cycle Chic thang is all about. It's time to travel to Tucson, Arizona, to see what the Bike Beautiful gang is getting up to. What a fantastic little film about their bike ride. R. Neil Weismiller, the man behind the dusty, desert bicycle beauty sent us the film and was gushing about the wonderful day that was had by all.

Great film. Great day. Go Tucson!
