The Simple Things in Life
"Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of a bike ride" / John F. Kennedy
And it is true. Either you are going to work, school, party or some other destination, bike is the best choice for the transportation. It will give a little work out feeling to your body, it will make you smile, it will lead you in meeting new people while waiting for the green light, it will let you feel your city and more... Put that sunnies on and get on a road!!!
Happy Cycling!

Sun is Out - Sun Glasses are On!
Finally, the Spring sun is out. Sun starved Copenhageners will use any excuse to lighten their wardrobe and run their sunglasses. So here goes. Above: Spring never looked better. Below: Finally an excuse to flag those tattoos.
Welcoming the warm breeze.
Layered and buttoned up for sun set.
Coolest Cat in Copenhagen?!? Your call.

Portraits of Cyclists - Isabel: “In Belgium, when I cycle from one town to another, I just follow the canal”
"I'm from Ghent in Belgium. I'm in Copenhagen for a couple of days to visit the city.
I'm used to cycling in my own city but in Ghent we don't have these completely separated lanes. The tram in Ghent makes cycling in the city a bit more complicated, especially when it rains.
In Belgium, I cycle often from Ghent to my parents' town. It's 35 km away from Ghent but I just have to follow the canal. Sometimes, on this track, I run into my friends who are heading back to their hometown, too, and we cycle together."

Portraits of cyclists - Mie: "I have an over-size basket fitting perfectly my bag”
“I'm
from Copenhagen. I cycle every day from Østerbro to my office. I
like cycling through the big park Fælledparken and along the lakes.
The scenery changes all the
time and I can see lots of people. Because in these places there are
no cars and no noise, it's like being somewhere else, outside the
city.”
“Where did you buy this huge basket?”
“I was looking for an over-size basket to carry my big bag and I finally ordered it online on a Dutch web shop. I had to put up a front rack to support the weight.”
“Do you have an anecdote to share with the reader of the blog?”
“It was during the summer, I was cycling through the city with a dress on. I overtook a group of tourists cycling quite slowly. Just after passing them I heard them ringing their bells and shouting. Thanks to that, I realized that I had a hole in my dress. That was extremely embarrassing.”

Portraits of cyclists - Conrad: "I really don't care about my average speed"
“I'm
from Copenhagen. I cycle every day but not during the winter.
I
ride a second hand bike, I don't fell like spending money on a bike.
I
learned riding a bike when I was 3 years old. For me, it's just
normal to bike in the city. I cycle since it's faster than taking the
bus. When I've got to go further, I cycle to the station and I put my
bike in the train.”
“Do
you know how many kilometers you cycle every day? Do you know your
average speed or things like that?”
“I
don't know. Maybe 10 kilometers. I really don't care about my average
speed.
The
good thing when you ride a bike is that you can see the city and wave
to your friend we you meet them.”

Portraits of cyclists: “My son is 6 and I cycle with him in Copenhagen”
“I'm
from Copenhagen. I cycle every day to go to work and to take my son
to school.”
“Can
you remember the first day you were able to ride your bike on your own?”
“No, but I remember the first day I rode my bike to school. I fell just in
front of my classmates.”
“How
old were you?”
“I
was 6 or 7.
My
son is 6 and I bike with him in the streets of Copenhagen. I always
stay next to him, but he rides his own bike. He learned to cycle very
early. He was 3 years old and I can say that he cycles very well. I
feel safe when I see him cycling. He knows where to stop, what to
look at.”

Portrait of cyclists - Teen couple cyclists: “We bike to school every day together”
"I'm from Copenhagen, I cycle every day to my high school. In my class, people leaving far away from the high school don't come by bike. But all the other students do.We bike because we like that. It's refreshing. It wakes me up in the morning.
Cycling is healthy when you cycle at least 20 minutes every day."
"Do you have a favorite route in the city?"
"I like to bike around in parks. I find that very cozy, even romantic."
"We bike to school together every day. I cycle to her apartment every morning to pick up."
"... or I pick him up."

Portraits of cyclists: Johanna & Caroline:"When I cycle, I like to recognize people and stop to chat"
"We
are from Copenhagen. We cycle everyday to go to school and to work."
"Do
you cycle when you visit cities abroad?"
"Sometimes,
in Barcelona for instance. But it seems that Copenhagen is a better
city to cycle thanks to the bike tracks. In some cities, it seems
kind of dangerous."
"What
do you like when you cycle ?"
"I
like to be able to recognize people. Then, you can just give them a
wave or stop to chat with them. You can also spot stores easily."
"I
have lot of good memories of biking with friends around the city to
go to a party."

« Do you have something to say to women who read the blog from abroad ? »
«You can all cycle, wear the clothes you want, even cycle in high hills. It's just a matter of practice. Don't forget to put a big basket in front of your bicycle to carry your handbag.»

Portraits of cyclists: Natalie - «I bike when I go shopping because it's easier to carry all the bags »
« I'm from Copenhagen and I bike during the week-end to come to the city center. »
« I bought my bicycle when I moved to Copenhagen. I use it mostly in my spare time when I go shopping like today because it's easier to carry all the bags thanks to the basket. »

Portraits of cyclists - Jens: “Today, I'm just riding around the city to discover new places”
“I cycle every day to the main station to catch my train to Roskilde where I study. I have a single speed bike which can be turned into a fixie. I think it's a cool bike. I come from Jutland and I think that in Copenhagen there is a bike culture that does not exist in the other cities in Denmark.”
“Why do you like biking in Copenhagen?”
“I bike because it's fast and cheap. It's also nice to get the opportunity to take a look at new places. Today [Sunday afternoon], I'm just riding around the city to discover new places.”Red wheel matching the red chain.

Summer Games on Dronning Louises Bridge
We're a bit weird in Copenhagen. Some of our favourite spots to hang out include cemetery gardens like Assistans Kirkegaard where famous Danes are laid to bury in paradise. Then there's Dronning Louises Bridge connecting cosmopolitan Nørrebro to the city centre.
Bring some friends and beer, or friends with beer to hang out on the bridge and enjoy eyeing up other Danes as they cycle by. If you're lucky some random guy may turn up with a boombox on wheels...
Watch young people cycle by and better still, guess which Copenhagen district they're probably from. These lot...Nørrebro?
Elegant hair bun up high and sleek sporty look. Hmmm...Østerbro?
On trend with electric blue coursing through this look (even the bike!)...dare I say Frederiksberg?
Okay, okay. It's not a bike...but this guy deserves some credit for being able to skateboard and send SMS's to his mates simultaneously.
Again, getting around on eight wheels instead of two! Best way to 'walk' your dog if he's a bit faster than what you were expecting...
Okay this is turning out to be a terrible game. Damn I give up! But cool glasses bro...where are you heading?
Hmmm...I guess it's back to eye-spy then!
Have a great weekend everyone!
Over and Out!
