You've Got Heart

I Heart Copenhagen
Today is the day of hearts, and we don't want to be left out. A quick serach for "heart" in our photo archives gave us these shots. Although every day is heart-y in Denmark when your coins are decked out with them:

I Heart Bike Culture
Big ol' heart on Nørrebrogade, the world's busiest bicycle street.
Hearts and Tattoos
Hearts under your bum.
Heart Shaped Bell and Condom
Heart-shaped bell and condom from a Belgian campaign Velove from a few years back. "My bike loves me", it reads.
Barcelona Heart Street
A lovely street in Barcelona.

And we couldn't forget this shot, now could we?

Have a love-filled day.

Couvreselle Bicycle Seat Covers

Cycle Chic Conference Barcelona 2011 - Couverselle
The heart and soul of bicycle culture thrives in the creations of passionate individuals. This post is about one of them.

There I was, riding through Montreal and heading for the Tour la Nuit - the annual evening bike ride in the city. Down the separated bike lane on rue Brébeuf. I saw someone on the sidewalk and just had to turn around. That's when I met Viviane.
Couvreselle 001
Outside her flat she was selling bicycle seat covers to the many cyclists heading for the Tour la Nuit, an event by Vélo Québec, with 17,000 people on bicycles! And not just any bicycle seat covers. Covers she crafts herself in a wild variety of fabrics and styles. I mean wild.

Couvreselle 002
We started chatting and she had heard of Cycle Chic. She invited me inside to show me the fantastic selection of seat covers that she had made. This is really Cycle Chic con amore. As it should be. Gorgeous personalised accessories. Perfect for adding a splash of style and colour to you bicycle and even keeping your bottom warm in the winter.

Each seat cover takes her three hours to create. There is incredible attention to detail and quality. A one-woman Cycle Chic extravaganza.

Viviane has a website, in French, called www.couvreselle.ca.

After a great deal of deliberation, I settled on the one at the top. :-)

Hearts and Tattoos

Hearts and Tattoos
À propos our previous post, I snapped this just a couple of days ago. Love the contrast between the tattoo and the hearts on the bike seat cover. Absolutely brilliant.

The tattoo is partially legible on the photo. It reads:
nosce te ipsum e et tu brute [know thyself - and then Julius Ceasar's quote to Brutus]
vivas oresas floreas [?]
hodie mihi cras tibi [It is my lot today, yours to-morrow]
quot homnies tot sententiae [there are as many opinions as there are men]

Love it.

The Cycle Chic Zoo - Seat Covers

We're loving these animal themed seat covers for rainy days, designed by Tilo Ahmels in Switzerland. The website is in German [google translate is your friend] but we can see that the covers cost €10.

Really elegant, simplistic design. They have a string so that you can pull them tight and knot them under the saddle.

Moooo-ve over, sister. I'm cycling past.

Even the tin they come in is cool.

Seeing the seat covers reminded us of some similar products spotted in Copenhagen a couple of years back. What a lovely little bicycle accessory to personalise your bicycle and compliment your already funky saddle.
