Hermes Cycle Chic

There are countless fashion brands who have jumped on the Cycle Chic bandwagon with their photo shoots over the past 6 years. But this photo from Hermes is definately one of the loveliest.

Hungarian Role Models

Budapest Cycle Chic_43
We get to meet so many inspiring women and men when Cycle Chic heads out into the world. Not least in Budapest, on the occasion of the Cycle Chic Conference last week.

Above is a wonderful and amazing lady. None other than Júlia Király - the Deputy-Governor of the Hungarian Central Bank. She rolled past the Bicycle Breakfast and we had a good chat about cycling in Budapest and Cycle Chic. What a role model Júlia is.

Cycle Chic Hungarian MP (2)
Meanwhile, elsewhere in Budapest, we bumped into Rebeka Szabó outside a restaurant. Rebeka is an MP in the Hungarian Parliament for the Green Party. She was out for dinner with her partner - both on bicycles, of course.

My kind of MP. Cycle Chic in a nutshell. Regular citizen on a regular bike, contributing to the development of a liveable city.

Cycle Chic Bloggers Conference - Budapest

Budapest Bicycle Breakfast_1
This just in from Cycle Chic Conference 2012: Budapest is Cycle Chic'tastic.  Ok, this isn't exactly "just in" as we've gotten to know Budapest for a while now from blogger Aron Halasz' Hungarian Cycle Chic, but last weekend we got to experience this bicycle lovely city firsthand.

The Budapest conference kicked off Friday morning with a breakfast for people cycling on their way to work, which also launched Budapest's bike to work week.

- 7 breakfast stands located in Budapest
- 14 total in Hungary
- 50 kilos of carrot bread at every station
- an equal amount of coffee
- no hungry cyclists in Hungary

Accompanying the breakfast was a photo shoot.  With the breakfast right next to the Opera House, it was not a bad backdrop for a photo shoot.  Not bad at all.

Many thank yous to János László and the Hungarian Cyclists' Club for arranging the bike breakfast...

And of course to Áron from Budapest Cycle Chic for arranging, well, everything...
Budapest Bicycle Life_8
Last year's conference was in Barcelona where we hosted the first ever Cycle Chic Breakfast. Meeting all kinds of inspiring people, experiencing all sorts of inspiring cities, and witnessing the bicycle movement happen in cities around the world. Budapest was no exception - it was filled with warm, wonderful, and inspiring moments.  That we're going to be blogging the rest of this week :-)

Scarosso Cycle Chic

We're loving the new photo shoot from the always cool Italian shoe brand Scarosso, shot in Berlin. With bicycles, of course.

Jopohagen Preview

Anna
Cycle Chic did a photo shoot for Jopo Bicycles from Finland last week. We're looking forward to blogging the photos but for now, here's the photographer's favourite shot of the day, featuring our Czech model, Anna.

On the railing you can see that this bicycle/pedestrian bridge is the Copenhagen place where lovers lock padlocks to symbolise their love. You see this all around the world, thanks to the Italian novel I Want You by author Federico Moccia.

Here's one I shot in Prague last year.

Helsinki Revisited

Took a while, but here's a little film about my visit to Helsinki last year for a keynote talk and a Cycle Chic photoshoot and bike ride. It's just a funky little collection of moving images from the Finnish capital. The Cycle Chic event and other bicycle trips I was taken on in the city.

Cycle Chic Meets Muuse.com

Muuse Meets Cycle Chic_8
Cycle Chic has teamed up with our friends at Muuse.com to make a film combining Muuse's brilliant fashion with Cycle Chic's eye for bicycles. We headed out to one of the many beaches around Copenhagen last Friday to shoot and here are some of the still photos from the day. Thanks to Velorbis for the bicycles, too.
Muuse Meets Cycle Chic_6
It was a brilliant day. A little chilly, if you ask us, but our model Maria is a viking and she put on a brave face. We wrapped her in fur and blankets between every take and took good care of her. Most of the shooting featured many of Muuse's creations from their talented designers but we always included some classic Cycle Chic bicycle ridin'. Of course we did. We couldn't live without it.

Muuse.com has also written about the behind the scenes action from the film shoot over at their blog.

It goes without saying that when we did the mobile shots, we used a cargo bike from Nihola. Mikael rode the trike and Theis, the cinematographer, sat in the box.

Right then... we'd better get started editing the film. Keep your eyes on this space. It's coming soon. Well... kind of soon. Soonish.

Cycle Chic Photo Shoot for Velorbis

Cycle Chic Photo Shoot for Velorbis
It's Copenhagen Fashion Week this week and what better reason than to write about bicycles and fashion.

It's no surprise that we like photography and we like bicycles here at Cycle Chic. Often we get to combine the two in a little more detail than normal in the form of photo shoots. Danish bicycle brand Velorbis needed some new imagery for the new catalogue and we said 'oh, yes' when they called. We shot the catalogue over two days here in Copenhagen and had a fabulous time.

Here are some of the photos from the shoot that we fancy. We shot a number of Velorbis bicycles as well as a bunch of their cool, new accessories like gorgeous leather bags for urban living.

There were, of course, a number of things we wove into the concept for the photo shoot. If there is any bicycle brand out there that understands how to sell their products positively, it is Velorbis. So right off the bat, we had a whole marketing world in common.

We wished to present cycling and bicycles like they always used to be presented, from the very beginning of bicycle culture in the late 1880's. Elegance, practicality, effortlessness. We were inspired by the many examples of bicycle posters from the late 1800's/early 1900's. Not directly, but merely in the style of the messaging.

We also developed a concept for the photo shoot that is quite rare in bicycle advertising. We found hardly any examples of bicycle ads where the model looked right into the camera, at the viewer. So we integrated this into the shoot, as you can see in a lot of these photos.

Here is a little slideshow from the photo shoot with Velorbis - both behind the camera and the shots we took:

Now we're looking forward to a shoot - stills and a film - for our good friends at MUUSE.COM next month.

Copenhagenize Consulting, who run Cycle Chic, works with consultancy and communications regarding urban cycling but fashion and photo/film jobs are the jam on our bread and butter sandwiches. See the commercial for Biomega bicycles, for example, here.
