Carry it with You, People!

Regarding to our previous blog post, here is a sequel with people carrying stuff. More casual, more understandable.
For example, this lady above. Fitting her bag perfectly into her black basket. We all know how important and handy it is to have a every day bag that fits your basket!!!

Young generation, always ready for exciting adventures that their day might bring...
Her basket might not fit perfectly to her pink dotted bag, but it doesn't steal away attention from the sleekness of her bike. Moreover, she puts on backpack and crossover bag and still look flawless while rolling through the streets of Copenhagen. Red lips, blushed cheeks - look that kills!!!!

Can you feel how the modern, urban transportation blends together in this picture? And still bicycle is the best choice for getting from A to B in our cities, because you can feel the human scale, you can feel the connectivity from person to person. Look at this guy. Music, your city, active lifestyle, backpack and box on the front rack. Everything is under control here!

This lady is definitely used to carrying a lot of stuff with here... Why? Because she is already secured herself with two baskets just in case shopping went little bit out of control!

Kid in school, time for party...
Heading into the city with flowers and bag in the basket. Want to create a cozy look for your bike and still carry everything with you like she does? Braided basket is your choice.

Happy Cycling!

Portraits of cyclists: Johanna & Caroline:"When I cycle, I like to recognize people and stop to chat"

Johanna & Caroline

"We are from Copenhagen. We cycle everyday to go to school and to work."

"Do you cycle when you visit cities abroad?"
"Sometimes, in Barcelona for instance. But it seems that Copenhagen is a better city to cycle thanks to the bike tracks. In some cities, it seems kind of dangerous."

"What do you like when you cycle ?"
"I like to be able to recognize people. Then, you can just give them a wave or stop to chat with them. You can also spot stores easily."

"I have lot of good memories of biking with friends around the city to go to a party."

The Bicycle Flower Pot

Plant
Flowers and bicycles go hand in hand. One of the loveliest events we've seen anywhere in the world is the Bicycle and Flowers Festival in Riga, Latvia. But what about if you want some permanent plant growth adding some green to your machine? And the Bicycle Vase just isn't big enough for your green thumb needs?

Two Danish designers, Mads Busk Larsen and Jacob Bang Korsholm have been thinking about this and they have developed a design for a bicycle flower pot. They were kind enough to let us test it out, above. The first thing we noticed is how many people smiled at us at red lights. Above, the flower pot looks lovely on the handlebar of my Bullitt cargo bike, together with the little wooden bike bell.

The flower pot is designed so that the small plants and flower pots you can buy at supermarkets will fit. With the earth and roots in a small fabric bag, the plant is stable in the pot. You can attach it to your handlebars, but there's no reason you can't attach it elsewhere on your bike, like on your back rack, for example.

While many Copenhageners park in bike sheds in their back yard, bikes are often parked out in the open, so the plant will grow under the same conditions as if it were in your garden.

Mads and Jacob are looking at a series of colours to suit different tastes. Colour coordination is always important.

We love the Bicycle Flower Pot. Nothing wrong with some more green in any city.

Of, course, if one lovely plant isn't enough, you need to go BIGGER.

Bicycles and Flowers in Riga

Riga Bicycle Flower Festival-004
On a recent visit to Riga, Latvia, I was invited on two bike rides. One of them was probably the loveliest bike ride I could imagine. All around the world there are bike rides taking place. Celebrating the bicycle, riding in support of this or that cause. All nice.

In Riga, however, a local bike shop arranged a Bicycle Flower Festival. Encouraging people to decorate their bicycles with flowers and go for a ride.

For no other reason than bicycles and flowers are a match made in heaven and compliment each other brilliantly.

So simple, so lovely. We wish we had thought of it ourselves.

The ride ended at the Dutch Bike shop for a barbeque and DJs. But there had to be a winner for most splendidly-decorated bicycle and here she is. What a brilliant decoration. She transformed her bicycle, using flowers, into a peacóck.

Gardens on Wheels

garden on wheels
Some people have a lovely commute to work - through the historic part of town, cobblestone lined streets, kids swinging their arms as they walk to school - I am not one of those people.  Living on a street with lots of car traffic and only 0.5 km from Cycle Chic / Copenhagenize's Frederiksberg office, I don't expect to see much.

This morning however a pop-up garden rolled its way in between the bicycles and cars.  Carved wooden benches, wispy trees, and bright fragrant flowers decorated the side of the street - inviting us passers by to relax with a coffee, giving a sense of personality and liveability to this street.  It'll be rolling along to another neighbourhood tonight.  While it was short lived, it left an impression and hope that one day we'll have more people-friendly streets, like in Rio...

Until then, here are a few more Copenhagen style gardens on the move.
