Cape of Good Hope

Winter Light - Cape of Good Hope
The days have been dull and grey for far too long. Today saw a splash of brilliant sunlight on a winter Copenhagen. Temperatures around freezing, but the light lit up the whole damn world. It's so special we even have a tag for it here on Cycle Chic - 'winter sun.'

What a splendid ensemble on this Copenhagener! Cape, heels and hat. True Copenhagen style.

I have a writers block about this one. So here is the shot, - now you tell me what I should have said. Or don´t.

Headwind

Headwind
Personally, I can live sub-zero temperatures. After all, people have been riding normal bikes in normal clothes all over the world for over 120 winters. The winter wind in Copenhagen, however, is a pain in the stylish ass. When it's a headwind, anyway. Tailwinds are a treat. The wind chill makes the temperature plunge, even before you start propelling yourself through the wind and increasing the chill. There isn't much else to do but muscle on through.

Short Skirts and Coloured Bags

Balance
Such delicacy, such poise, such nymph-like grace. A thermometer hovering around freezing and a nasty wind from the north are no excuse not to don a short skirt. Stockings are practical and warm boots do wonders. A stylish cape never hurts, either.

Green Bag Pink Bag
Splashes of colour on the bike lanes. Choose whatever colour bag you fancy, it'll look wonderful on your back rack.

Autumnal Tuesday

Splendida
The cape lives on despite being sooo last year. We don't mind at all when it looks this splendid. The bow in the hair completes the classy outfit.
If you're wondering, the heavily-laden bicycle in the middle, up front, is a postman. Four panniers and a bag on the front rack.
The Royal Danish Post *
As seen here, too.

Autumnal
The sun is shining and, although the air is cooler, there are some Copenhageners that haven't quite made the jump to autumn just yet. Luckily.

The Cape of Good Hope

The Cape of Good Hope
Looks like the cape is still going strong on the ladies of Copenhagen. It's been a classy addition to the streetstyle scene this winter.
Be Beauty
Another pair of Copenhageners being socialable as they ride from A to B.

Found this on the Telegraph's website: Goodbye Lyrca, hello street cred. Great title.

And this from The Guardian - On your bike!:
"More and more people are choosing to cycle to work, but what do you wear if you have an aversion to Lycra and road racing? Paula Cocozza offers some suggestions for the fashion-conscious cyclist..."
It's an amusing satirical piece but with many a vein of cycle chic truth.
On the helmet:
"The fallacy at the root of all helmet design is that people who ride a bike are cyclists. We're not. We just want to look like ordinary folk who happen to have chosen the bicycle as our mode of transport."

On the Breast Pocket:
"A humble adornment, but, according to Boris Johnson in response to our inquiry, it's the single most important accessory to cycling. Over to Boris: "When you're cycling and you want to stop talking quickly because you're about to hit the car in front, you need to put your mobile phone smoothly away in a fluid action, to ease from the breast pocket to the handlebars in one swift parabola of the wrist."

I'm off to the summer house in Sweden for a few days over easter. The Danish nation shuts down completely. We have bank holidays on Thursday, Friday and Monday, so rest and relaxtion with La Famiglia is on the cards. Unfortunately the woods of Sweden are devoid of cycle chic, but I'll be back soon enough. :-)
