As the mornings in Copenhagen starts to become darker, colder and windier, Cycle Chic takes you back to those early autumn mornings in Paris. Where, with the help of the sun, we made these magical, urban cycling moments. Enjoy!

Beautiful Cycle Bridges
Central Copenhagen is criss-crossed by small bridges that traverse to the Island of Amager and the many canals of the old city harbor. The last years have added several dedicated cycle bridges. Above: The newest cyclist-only bridge "Cykelslangen" (The Cycle Snake). Below: One of Copenhagens Oldest bridges "Stormbroen" (The Storm Bridge) with The Marble Bridge behind. Like most bridges Stormbroen has been given dedicated bike lanes on both sides.
Hovering over the trains via Tietgen's Bridge at Central Station.
"Åbuen" (The Creek Bow) another newly built bridge to help cyclists riding along Copenhagen's wonderful "Green Cycle Path".
"Langebro" (The Long Bridge) wallows in beautiful sun light every morning and evening as a treat for the commuters.
Happy Cycling!

Relax!
No need to rush. Time is on your side. Bikes weave seamlessly through the urban landscape. Congestion, cramped spaces and concealment is a car thing.
This is the good life!
Happy Cycling!

New York, New York
Living in Copenhagen, I've gotten quite confident about my urban skills. Having mastered the metro system - all two lines; having learned to survive the headwinds and people swirling around on the cycle tracks - all nicely paved and signed; I was ready.
New York City, here we come.
It was not quite what I remembered. Each subway station does not come fully equipped with subway maps or helpful personnel. Distances on maps are not closer than they appear.
So, we did the natural thing for two Copenhageners in New York and rented bikes. First trip was a tour of Brooklyn, from Park Slope to Downtown to Williamsburg with all sorts of foodie stops in between, with our friend Doug Gordon who runs Brooklyn Spoke.
Fortunately, for the ride, and the sake of the outdoor ice cream festival pit stop, it stopped raining after approximately one cafe latte.
Brooklyn lanes on the left and surprisingly calm Manhattan street on the right.
Sure there are potholes deep enough to make a hangover from two days ago instantly reappear. And sure the lanes are a bit reminiscent of playing hopscotch on two wheels, but I'll be damned if that wasn't the most absolutely wonderful way to get around and to experience New York City.
According to my friend Anna, and go to for all things New York, it's also arguably now one of the fastest ways to get around.
Word is this level of the Bridge is going to be widened to give more space to both pedestrians and cyclists.
Until next time, thanks for the ride New York.

Cycle Chic Voyage, New York, NY
Summer holiday, at last. While Mikael headed off to Croatia, I'm taking a few weeks and spending them in New York. Most of the trip will be in upstate New York, but I am so so very excited to spend the last few days in New York City. After working at Cycle Chic and Copenhagenize, the way I perceive cities has changed. Drastically. It happens to all of us.
So, I've got my Cycle Chic shades packed, my restaurants and theatres scouted out, and I am ready. Ready for Manhattan Bridge Mornings, Brooklyn coffee shop afternoons, and some fantastic summer nights out.

What Goes Up Must Come Down
The bad news is that you have to go up one side of the bridge.
Up, up you must go.
The good news is that you get to glide down the other side.
The Copenhagener in the top photo is doing something that is hard to avoid. She's glancing out over the water and the harbour. No matter how busy you are, you have to glance at the water, it seems.
This is what the harbour looks like over a six-month period:
