Winter Cycle Chic in Copenhagen

A blue skirt looks lovely against all that white snow.


Warm fur hats have been pulled out of the closets all over the city.


Battling a snowstorm and headwind is ALWAYS cosier if you have someone to chat with.

Red and Yellow Heading for Autumn

Methinks we're seeing a pattern here. We're heading into deep autumn here in Copenhagen and it certainly appears that the best colour to go with yellowing leaves is... red. As these morning commuting shots attest.

Matching your clothes to the colours of the seasons is a much underrated pursuit but no less important than matching your clothes to your bicycle of choice.

It's also wonderful to consider how the simple act of cycling can easily become a painting.

And the boots are back, for sure.

“I'm from Copenhagen. I cycle every day with this kind of skirt. I like the late 40's / beginning 50's outfits.

I work in a clothing store named Mondo Kaos (in Nørrebro). We sell new clothes inspired by the 40's/50's. It's very vintage inspired.

I like this look since it's very feminine and it fits cycling.”

“I'm from Romania. I'm studying in Copenhagen and I cycle every day. I used to bike in Romania too and I'm involved in the blog SkirtBike. It's a reason why I wanted to come to Copenhagen.”

“Do you have a favorite route in Copenhagen?”

“Sometimes I take a ride for pleasure or simply to clear my mind. In this situation I cycle in the center of the city. I love cycling on the bridges over the water.

“May you share an anecdote with us?”

“Once, while cycling, a cyclist talk to me, but I could not understand since I don't speak Danish. She pointed at my pedals and I was a little bit frightened but it was just to ask me where I bought my shoes.”

Cycle Chic Turns Seven

Seven years ago today, this blog we call Copenhagen Cycle Chic was born. While the Photo That Launched a Million Bicycles was taken, as you probably know, on November 14, 2006, the blog started in June the year after. It's been a wild and glorious ride and we love every minute of it. The testimonials we've recieved through the years are treasures to us, as are all the people we continue to meet around the world who thank us for this blog and the inspiration. Inspiration is, however, a two-way street and we are constantly inspired by the people we meet and photograph.

For no particular reason, here are some recent photos from Luxembourg to celebrate our birthday.

Heels on Wheels - Copenhagen Style

Heels on Wheels is a film showing Copenhagen bicycle culture. The film is an example of how four Danish girls use bicycles as transport - dresses, high heels and freezing weather is no barrier to arrive at the party by bike.
It was shown at Bicycle Film Festival 2010.

The film was made by: Anna Bisgaard-Nøhr, Naja Bjørn Nielsen, Line Røijen and Nanna Nike Kindtler

Blind Me With Your Colours

Not known for their colours, Copenhageners will try to show otherwise. Bring on the colours!


I had to stop Maria outside Tjili Pop as I love her Aztec-imspired jacket. Teamed with those sunglasses and I am sold!


Copenhageners are loving the colourful highlights it seems!


Here's Emily on her way from long day shopping in the city. Sadly she didn't some away with anything but lovin' her cute look (including the bike!).


Her favourite bike accessory is of course her flower-weavened basket. She showed me the lights there had been installed so that at night her rose basket lights up. Of course, making my girly heart skip a beat.

Summer Games on Dronning Louises Bridge

We're a bit weird in Copenhagen. Some of our favourite spots to hang out include cemetery gardens like Assistans Kirkegaard where famous Danes are laid to bury in paradise. Then there's Dronning Louises Bridge connecting cosmopolitan Nørrebro to the city centre.

Bring some friends and beer, or friends with beer to hang out on the bridge and enjoy eyeing up other Danes as they cycle by. If you're lucky some random guy may turn up with a boombox on wheels...


Watch young people cycle by and better still, guess which Copenhagen district they're probably from. These lot...Nørrebro?


Elegant hair bun up high and sleek sporty look. Hmmm...Østerbro?


On trend with electric blue coursing through this look (even the bike!)...dare I say Frederiksberg?


Okay, okay. It's not a bike...but this guy deserves some credit for being able to skateboard and send SMS's to his mates simultaneously.


Again, getting around on eight wheels instead of two! Best way to 'walk' your dog if he's a bit faster than what you were expecting...


Okay this is turning out to be a terrible game. Damn I give up! But cool glasses bro...where are you heading?

Hmmm...I guess it's back to eye-spy then!

Today I was lucky enough to bump into Karen and Charlotte, two medic students living in Copenhagen. When they're not studying (hard) they like to come and chill in the beautiful park, Kongens Have.
