Cycle Chic New Year's?

Help me out. I'm trying to figure out where to spend New Year's Eve.

Addendum:
I've close the poll! Thanks so much for voting. It ended up looking like this after 409 votes:
San Francisco - 134 - 32.76%
New York City - 115 - 28.12%
Montreal - 112 - 27.38%
Toronto - 48 - 11.74%

I've now made my decision - which was tough. It was also based on flight prices and invitations in my email inbox and stuff like that...

The winner is... Montreal! I booked my tickets today.

    Why isn't Portland on the list?! It's a great town, both for New Years Eve and for cycling.

    Sad to see Vancouver drop off your initial list, but I'll vote Toronto if you can promise you'll hit Rob Ford in the face with a pie. The pie should have a bicycle drawn on it in chocolate syrup. :-D

    What a coincidence, I have lived in all those cities. While they are all great places to live, I highly recommend Montreal for NYE. Yes, it will be cold but Montrealers have the joie de vivre and know how to have a good time. People are social and friendly and will welcome you with open arms.

    If it is a Hogmanay party you are looking for, then it has to be Scotland, and Edinburgh prides it self on throwing the best! Oh, and the cycling is bad either...

    Montreal. Cycle chic seems to be alive and well there.

    Although I believe BIXI has been put away for winter and some of the separated bike lanes have been closed.

    I'd love to see you do a little story on cycle culture in Montreal.

    I'm in "in neighbourhood" at Christmas for personal and private reasons and figured I'd spend New Years somewhere fun. these cities are convenient for me flying home to Copenhagen.

    to be honest, I'd rather be in Tokyo for New Years, but that's a bit too far.

    Montréal!!!
    I spend last years NYE in Copenhagen. I think it would balance things out if you came to MTL. ;-)

    And the fireworks and countdown to midnight are much nicer on Place Jacques Cartier then in Time Square...

    And real Vikings won't mind the cold, right?(!!)

    I'd suggest Port Townsend, Washington, U.S.A. on the Northeast corner of the Olympic Peninsula. And New Year's day you can go to Nordland, WA and participate in the Polar Bear dip at the Nordland General Store at noon, Pacific Standard Time. I'll be visiting my in-laws in Port Orchard with my wife, as usual.

    Fly to Seattle, WA, and from there you can get to Port Townsend by bus and ferry in about 3 hours, if your timing is right. Or charter a flight from Seattle International to the Jefferson County Airport. I think Ryan Air and Island Air both have flights.

    If in San francisco I want know about the combination of steep streets and bikes, (and trams). The flatness of Denmark is often thrown back at advocates of bicycling in Sydney when brought up.

    Dollo: I spoke in San Francisco last year. And rode the 'hills' together with these friends. There's nothing to it. Fifty years ago people were riding bikes all over Sydney. They can do it again.
