We awoke this morning to snowfall. Nothing heavy but it's the first snowfall of the season. A sure sign that winter is right around the corner. I love the first snowfall of the year.
The bicycles rolled on through the snow and raging wind. One one side of the street the cyclists flew along on a tailwind, on the other side they muscled into a headwind.
The meterologists are mumbling that by all accounts we're in for another tough winter this year.
So we may be seeing some real snow cycle chic in the coming months, like this shot from last winter.
Good morning you too
ReplyDeleteGood morning, though its evening here.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine riding in snow all winter, we had some snow days in Canberra and I found it very difficult to navigate bike and snow, course this was on bike paths, did not trust the Aussie roads AND snow.
Hard core - that's commitment! Respect.
ReplyDeleteWow, I am sooo proud of these guys! I hope I won't be afraid when the first snow comes! :P
ReplyDeleteWell, when you don't have a car and taxis are outrageously expensive, one doesn't have much choice.
ReplyDeleteThis will be my first full winter in Denmark and I'm already crying.
Just had my first Wind assisted cold winter ride. I felt alive after! -13 including windchill and blowing snow. Ah life in Canada, just great!
ReplyDeleteLiving in Portugal and in the south of the country (Faro, Algarve), I am still not even wearing a jacket let alone thinking of ice cold wind. And I feel ashamed that even so, I am driving to work every day, when I could actually be walking or cycling.. RESPECT is what I have to say to these bikers!
ReplyDeleteI like the picture of last year best. In Portland, Oregon we have heavy WET snow, if we get any. But the Eastern part of the state is dry snow you just brush it off and the temp doesn't feel that cold.
ReplyDeleteWow! That's too cool to go with. :-)
ReplyDeleteYour photos are quite nice. A curiosity question. Is there any country in Europe that has a law in which all bicycles must be painted with highly visible reflective paint to make them more far more visible on the roads than many I see in the photos on this blog?

there is no where in the world, let alone europe, that there is a law forcing people to paint their bicycles certain colours.
ReplyDeletethis is a city and, like most cities, it is well-lit with streetlights.
Here in Southern Ontario, we're expected to have a similar winter to last year, which was quite mild and next to no snow.
ReplyDeleteWe are usually hovering around 0C this time of year, however for the next few days weather will be in the mid-teens with rain...To be honest I'd happily take the snow over the rain.
wowzers! wither the weather and ride on!!!
ReplyDeleteLove your winter pictures!!!
ReplyDeleteMikael, I believe there was a law in Britain that the "tails" of mudguards had to be painted white.
ReplyDeleteRyan, I confess I do hope we get a winter like last year's - I cycled all winter, which I rarely do here in Montréal. No snow at all yet, except a few flakes one night that melted early the next morning.
this picture is beautiful.
