  1. Wow. a back passenger. I can't take the way she ride the bike. No even foot rest for a good balance.

  2. I'm wondering if there is a difference between Danish rear racks and Dutch ones? I'm just trying to figure out why the difference in riding style – where the Dutch always ride rear racks sidesaddle unlike the Danish straddling style...

  3. seeing a girl (or boy for that matter) ride along and not going side saddle is extremely rare here...but you knew that already :)

  5. Hah!

Hmm, wonder if it might correlate with politics instead of rack design? Which way(s) do rackriders in the Netherlands face when riding sidesaddle? If nearly nobody straddles, then that would mean few of them are centrist...

  6. We're just not afraid of opening our legs here.

  7. @Kiwehtin no politics, Dutch are very pragmatic, the sturdy rack design (most 'on paper' for minimum of 25 kg cargo, but practically designed by manufacturers for an adult) allows it and side saddle is just way more comfortable and has better view ;).

@Mikael haha, cheeky...question: you think Amsterdammers are? :-p

  8. Gorgeous color composition and I just love that wide blue bike lane/zone.

  9. Let's test Mikael's hypothesis: do Amsterdammers pedal sidesaddle?

  10. Cycled a Fri night through a major European city without a cycle culture a few weeks ago. Persuaded the attractive blond Polish girl I was with to go side saddle on the carrier for a lift home. Well the positive comments and envious looks from boys and girls. It just was such a stylish and romantic scene.
Just thought I'd mention it . Of course the Danes and the Dutch know this already.

  12. is it allowed to do like this in cph? i once had my friend sitting on the backrack and biking near norreport...so scared of being caught by cops for having a back passenger!

  13. It's actually not allowed, and mostly actively discouraged, and maybe that's why most people do it the 'wrong' way?

They've never had practice, and so they think they should sit like a passenger on a motorcycle. Does it make sense?

  14. @Kiwehtin lol, good one :)

@yandream: I was told by Mikael that, however silly, all a passenger needs to avoided being fined is a string/rope around his/her waste, attached to whatever part of the bicycle.

I wouldn't bother with that, either, but I suggest this because I thought the only time you really need to be scared of cops in CPH is when there's a climate conference in town...:p
