The costumes worn during the Halloween critical mass were fantastic. An ocean of creativity. Not surprisingly, a simple spot of Cycle Chic ranks high in our books.
Skirts on bicycles, too.
Good guys and bad guys were everywhere.
And we love a cool hat.

Isn't it hard for ladies in skirts and high heels to ride a road bike with drop bars and no fenders? Why do they do that here?
ReplyDeleteScott: I don't wear heels much, but I ride a bike with a road frame and drop bars in a skirt almost every day. If the skirt is short enough or full enough, the top bar keeps any excess fabric out of my spokes/brakes/chain. If I'm wearing a skirt that's too long and/or narrow for the road frame, I ride a much older lady's frame instead.
ReplyDeleteI do have a friend who rides in heels on a road frame. She says it's fairly easy. I have one pair of heels and almost never wear them, so it's not an issue for me.
That looks like a great Halloween!
ReplyDeleteHey Mikael, did you see you got declared a hero on The Grauniad bike blog?
Hear hear!

ReplyDeleteLemming - get a better job and stop whinging! ;-)
scott: if it was hard they probably wouldn't do it.
ReplyDeletebadbeard: thanks for the link!
True, I've got to work on that. I want to look at riders in high heels at work without the man keeping me down. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the lady with the birds! Homage a Hitchcock/Tippy Hedron. Bodega Bay is just an hour away...
ReplyDeleteFair enough. It just looks kind of awkward.
ReplyDeleteI currently ride a road frame, with dropped bars in skirt and heels - it seems no more difficult than any other style of bike. Like Aprilstar says, the cross bar does have the advantage of keeping skirts from getting tangled in the wheels.
ReplyDeleteThe big secret to secure riding in smooth-slidy-soled heels (even in the rain) is converting to BMX-style pedals - a wide stable platform with small pointy bits that don't slip. :)
