Un Film Francais
There I was on Højbro Square and a fashionable woman on a bicycle rode past. That's hardly unusual in this city, I know, but this particular Copenhagener gave me, for a brief moment, the feeling of being in the cinema or, better yet, being a character in a film. Not just any film. A French film. She rode past like a character in a classic film francais and transported me along with her for a moment.
"A French film" speaks volumes but I've been trying to figure out what kind of French film she is a character in. We're not talking Godard here, not at all. I've considered Truffaut, but nah. Rohmer is getting closer, Tati is a vague bet, but I think I've settled on a film by Patrice Leconte.
All these reads like inside thoughts that maybe shouldn't have become outside thoughts... but hey, it's my blog. :-)
Audrey Tautou could totally play the woman's part, in your french film.

On second thought, first impressions usually have at least the grain of truth in them and your fist impression was "not Godard" and my first impression was not Godard.

So I'll back the Vadim horse. It's just got that someone who remembers film making in the 60s feel about it.

Ah, I didn't mean to imply that it was made in the 60s, just by someone who was already making films in the 60s. It might well have been made, well, yesterday.
ReplyDeleteAnd I've no doubt that in the 60s Vadim was one of the directors that Leconte was paying attention to (or at least he was paying attention to his wives), so I am content to have a friendly hand shake over the matter.
Although I still might like to see you continue the film.
I might even be so bold as to suggest a title, in fact, I will:

i'm quite certain, too, that Leconte learned much from Vadim. Including how not to treat women... :-)
