Outstanding Trackstanding

Trackstand
A right turn was underway but this couple slowed to allow the pedestrians to cross. The Copenhagener on the white bicycle performed an impressive trackstand in standing position while waiting.
Ride
The coast is now clear and it's time to hustle off towards the promise of a summer Saturday evening.

Note the basket. In innovative, home-made solution using a supermarket basket secured to the handlebars with plastic zipstrips.

  1. Oh, that is so cool. I told the Co-Habitant that it was possible to do this on a non-fixed-gear bicycle!

  2. Sure it's possible, although finding some small grade/imperfection in the road surface helps (to make a rear directed force to balance against). You can also convert a non-fixed gear into a manually operated fixed wheel to track stand as long as you like, but not with fenders on.

Just grab the front wheel with your hand.

  3. Looks like you have lovely weather this time of year. It has been a long time since I saw any jackets around here.

  4. Trackstanding ;-). Something I practice at every red light. It just looks sooo cool.

  5. I always manage to get bumped by people who do not track stand well and wobble all over the place. Does it even count as track standing if you can not keep still?

  6. I dare say all you need to trackstand is a bicycle - any old bicycle will do - and a well-practiced sense of balance.

Adrienne: you're still bowling even if all the balls roll down the gutter, aren't you? :-)

  7. Yes, you are still bowling, but you are likely to get thrown out of the league; unless you do it with a great deal of style and with a very short skirt.

  8. Bowling or not, the trackstand looks great on a classic loop-frame bicycle. I so need to learn how to do that.
