A vintage French postcard recently bought in Marseille. It advertises a special kind of cycling pants that are 'indispensable for elegant, sporty women'. I wonder if they are still in production...

ReplyDeleteThat ad is cute and sexy but the proportions (including the panniers) are terrible. She looks as if she has been subjected to old-Chinese footbinding. It looks as if an upper body and lower body in different scales have been spliced together.

whatever the case, no question the french "got it" when it comes to expressing one's sexuality. AND they learned something long before the americans - sex sells!

ReplyDeleteIn fact, theses are two small metal boxes where you could put some small things to repair flat tires, etc.
I think that there were such boxes on many 1950's Peugeot bicycles. For example, I searched "vélo Peugeot 1950" on Google Images and found this photo on the 2nd page : http://guemenesurscorff1.voila.net/photo1049velo.jpg
