Culotte Cycle Chic

Vélo-Ski
A vintage French postcard recently bought in Marseille. It advertises a special kind of cycling pants that are 'indispensable for elegant, sporty women'. I wonder if they are still in production...
By the way, are those the smallest panniers in the world on that back rack?

  1. Girls: how DO we cycle in a skirt without it flying up in the wind?

  2. Just tuck the loose bit in under you and sit on it. Works for me :-)

  3. Just enough room for lipstick and an extra pair of culottes.

That ad is cute and sexy but the proportions (including the panniers) are terrible. She looks as if she has been subjected to old-Chinese footbinding. It looks as if an upper body and lower body in different scales have been spliced together.

Funny, the sexy Mador pants would practically be "granny pants" nowadays. Grannies still wore much more covering knickers back then.

  5. whatever the case, no question the french "got it" when it comes to expressing one's sexuality. AND they learned something long before the americans - sex sells!

  6. I just see this article. I am French and I own an old (1950's) Peugeot bicycle with these kind of "small paniers".

In fact, theses are two small metal boxes where you could put some small things to repair flat tires, etc.

I think that there were such boxes on many 1950's Peugeot bicycles. For example, I searched "vélo Peugeot 1950" on Google Images and found this photo on the 2nd page : http://guemenesurscorff1.voila.net/photo1049velo.jpg

Sorry for my english. I hope you understood what I meant.
