thanks, raquel. when we take shots from behind we are inspired by two artistic angles. One is Rückenfigur - German for 'back figure'. It's a concept often related to romantic painters such as Caspar David Friedrich and aims to make visible what the person featured is looking at.
The other one originates with the Chinese poet Zhu Ziqing and his poem 'Seeing Father From The Back' from 1925. There is a term in Chinese called Backsight, meaning basically the same thing as rückenfigur.
beautiful blog- i have linked it to mine, www.coconinocycles.blogspot.com it has to do with custom framebuilding, off-road handcycling, and other cool stuff. check it out! keep up the good work, steve.
I want to see a picture of a hefty, Danish woman on a bike. Please don't tell me I'm thousands of miles away and they are all built for speed even if they just meander on a single speed.
Rückenfigur.. interesting esthetical background, I will search for one of the first episode described in Sophie’s World, where our little hero runs after some mysterious figure and finally reaches the mysterious shed hidden by the forest.. Something philosophical lies behind it!
Actually backsight lit. "back shadow/silhoutte" was an short essay , known for its flow both in language and idea, and the usual empathy you get in his essays.
Didn't realise he is known much in the West as I don't think he wrote/published in another language(?)
